Is the generic version of my drug cheaper than the brand name?

Yes—generics are almost always significantly less expensive than brand-name versions, both in terms of the drug's retail cost and your out-of-pocket copay or coinsurance. If a generic version exists, it's worth comparing the cost difference before choosing a plan.

Ask your doctor if a generic alternative is available and appropriate for your condition. Most plans place generics in Tier 1 with the lowest copays.
