Should I pay my carrier directly if I get a bill?

It depends on your plan type. If you’re not sure which one you have, check the View details button on the enrollment plan in question in your Thatch dashboard. The pop out will tell you if the plan is either a Thatch pays or Member pays plan.

If you’re on a Member Pays plan
You pay your premium yourself, so yes, you should make the payment directly to your carrier using your Thatch payment method. Thatch doesn’t send these payments for you, so paying on time is how you keep your coverage active. If you’ve already paid and still received a bill, check your carrier’s member portal to confirm they’ve received it. If you’ve paid and your carrier still shows a balance, contact our support team and we’ll help.

If you’re on a Thatch Pays plan
We make your premium payments for you, so you don’t need to pay a carrier bill yourself. Before you do anything, check where your payment stands:

  1. Check with your carrier. Log in to your carrier’s online member portal, or call them, to see your payment status. Your carrier is always the final source of truth.

  2. Check your Thatch dashboard. You can also look there for your payment status.

If your payment shows as paid: bills are often sent by paper mail and can cross paths with our payment.

If your payment has not been made: contact our support team through the help widget in your Thatch dashboard, and we’ll escalate it with your carrier.

Can I pay it myself on a Thatch Pays plan?
You can, but we recommend letting us make the payment. If you pay your carrier and we also send the payment, the result is a duplicate payment that you would have to reclaim by submitting a reimbursement request. Letting us handle it saves you that extra step and any other admin.
