How much do I have to spend out of pocket before my allowance kicks in if I want to contribute to an HSA?

For 2027, the minimum statutory HDHP deductible is $1,750 for individual coverage and $3,500 for family coverage. Your health budget can't reimburse any medical expenses until you've met this minimum deductible out of pocket.

The IRS updates these figures annually. If your employer structures your CHOICE plan this way, you can contribute to an HSA while enrolled, but you'll have significant out-of-pocket costs before your health budget becomes available.
